Pino Procopio
Pino Procopio, born Giuseppe Antonio Procopio, (Guardavalle, June 16, 1954), is an Italian painter, sculptor, and illustrator, an exponent of figurativism.
Artistic studies began in Catanzaro, but completed in Rome, and in 1982 he graduated in architecture from "La Sapienza" University in Rome.
In 1980, the "La Bitta" art center exhibited his first solo show. After two years spent in Verona, in 1985 he settled in Giulianova, Abruzzo.
In 2001, the "Fondazione Italiana Stauròs Onlus" invited him to exhibit in the Staurós Museum of Contemporary Sacred Art in San Gabriele. The work "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit" is now a permanent part of the museum's collection. The following year, in 2002, he created the painting for the poster of the "World Book and Copyright Day," sponsored by UNESCO.
In 2003, the State Monopolies commissioned him to create the painting to be affixed to the European Lottery ticket, and in 2004 he was commissioned to create the painting to be affixed to the Italian Lottery ticket.
In 2005, the Ministry of Communications promoted an exhibition of his work in Rome that recounted the evolution of the Italian postal service over 100 years of history.
In 2007, the Pescara Committee of the "Società Dante Alighieri" awarded him the "Dante Alighieri 2007" prize in the Art section. The following year, in 2008, in Rome, the Boncompagni-Ludovisi Museum of the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art set up "Ulysses, scenes from a journey," an exhibition dedicated to him.
In 2015, in Rome, at the National Gallery of Modern Art (GNAM), he participated in the collective exhibition, Corporate Art, which aimed to highlight the close link between industrial commissioning and art.
In 2017, at the Palazzo dello Sport in Teramo, with the patronage of UNESCO and MIUR, the "Baadaye, Pinocchio d’Africa" exhibition took place, a modern reinterpretation of the Pinocchio fable, linked to the drama of immigration.
In 2019, the Municipality of Ascoli Piceno commissioned him to create the Palio della Quintana for the historic August joust. Also in 2019, he exhibited in two solo shows, at the Palazzo del Pegaso of the Tuscany Region in Florence and, subsequently, at the Museum of the Abruzzo People in Pescara. In 2020, the Municipality of Ascoli Piceno and the Civic Museums of Ascoli Piceno, with the patronage of the Marche Region, set up a solo exhibition of his work at the Palazzo dei Capitani del Popolo.
In 2021, with the patronage of the Marche Region and the Municipality of Recanati, he was invited to exhibit in a solo show focused on the figure of the poet Giacomo Leopardi, in the main hall of the municipal building of Recanati.
In 2021 and 2022, he exhibited in two collective exhibitions in the prestigious Cimitile Prize, at the Early Christian Basilicas of Cimitile.
In 2022, he exhibited at the Salt Warehouses of the Municipality of Siena in a solo exhibition, sponsored by the Tuscany Region. Also in 2022, he exhibited in two solo shows, in the Principality of Monaco, in the rooms of the Yacht Club de Monaco, and in China at the Longxi Art Museum, in Zhejiang province. Also in the same year, he was commissioned to create the Pallio della Carriera di Carpineto Romano.
In 2024, with the patronage of the Marche Region and the Municipality of Ascoli Piceno, he exhibited at the Palazzo dei Capitani del Popolo, in a solo exhibition of his work. Also in 2024, he exhibited in a solo show in China, at the Lishui Art Museum.
In 2025, in France, in the city of Aigues-Mortes, he participated in the collective exhibition "Les artistes italiens exposent à la chapelle des Capucins." Also in the same year, with the patronage of the Municipality of Giulianova and the Civic Museums of Giulianova, he exhibited at the Loggiato Cerulli in a solo exhibition of his work.
Exibitions
